Sophie 06:21
Sophie, Don't it go, "you can't reap what you don't sow"? You're tired of seein' white But snow is fallin' here tonight In the winter sun You said the trees had died And that you found A flightless bird inside That weeds and worms Could not satisfy her Your broken heart Has no room for her to hide Sophie, Don't it go, "you can't reap what you don't sow"? You're tired of seein' white But snow is fallin' here tonight And I know The cold will go But for now Bring on a little more snow If time slipped over The ice upon the trees and snow I'd speak with you I'd speak with you another night Sophie, Don't it go, "you can't reap what you don't sow"? You're tired of seein' white But snow is fallin' here tonight In the winter sun I searched for seeds for you to eat But from my hand Your bird feasted and you cried Now under the desert moon I return to where you leave The song I sing Keeps your spectre in my sight I'm so sorry I wish I didn't fight

I never thought that I'd be someone you looked up to I'm not sure that I'll be anything like you When I think of you it's overwhelming too Will you understand me when I come to you? Oh little sibling, is it in you too? I guess I don't really know that much of you When I think of seeing you I feel blue sometimes, I can't believe it's true I feel blue sometimes, I can't believe it's true I can't promise you the world won't swallow you whole I can't promise you the world won't swallow you whole I can't promise you the world won't swallow you whole Maybe someday... You're a woman now, it's true, it's true Or at least not a man, and I know that's hard to do But I'd like to be a sibling loved by you I'd never leave you in the cold because it's new Remember Christmas lights all over the zoo? Remember "I am rubber and you're made of glue"? Remember pressing pennies under the train tracks too? "Anything you say bounces off of me to you!" These memories are still for me and you These memories are still for me and you I can't promise you the world won't swallow you whole I can't promise you the world won't swallow you whole I can't promise you the world won't swallow you whole Maybe someday... I'm so proud of you, of you I'm so proud of you, of you I'm so proud of you, of you And I hope you find that you can take pride in me too

Runnin' up and hit the cop who's jumpin' One of my friends, could feel my heartbeat bumpin' Yellin' "Go fuck yourself!" when I hit the ground 6am out of the Justice Center Offered a smoke by the legal defender Felt free now for the first time in this town I will defend myself if I have to I, I don't need to be the one to talk things out I will defend myself if I have to I, I don't need to be the one to talk things out Put on a dress and get down to disco Liquid eyeliner a la San Francisco Never learned to love myself, but I'm gettin' that now I love my makeup when my eyes start weepin' Feel no shame, I love the fuckin' weekend Forget to take it off before I pass out Become a woman because I have to I, I don't need to find a way to push that down Become a woman because I have to I, I don't need to find a way to push that down Hate me, hate me 'cause I wanna go shoppin' You hate when I bottom and you hate when I'm topping Honestly the sex doesn't matter to me most right now I'm a lesbian and I feel so feminine When I'm 'round women I forget about men again Couldn't care less what you see me as right now The world goes on without you I, I'm allowed to cut you out The world goes on without you I, I'm allowed to cut you out Follow my eyes and you can see them gleamin' Put a little fit on and stop all your dreamin' Take a deep breath when you're so strung out Freak flags flyin' all around this country Motorcycle mama you can drop your sundries Ride to the river, lay down, we can find some rest I love my changing body I, I hope that you can feel it too I love my changing body I, I hope that you can feel it too We will defend ourselves if we have to Oh, We don't need to be the ones to talk things out We will defend ourselves if we have to Oh, We don't need to be the ones to talk things out

So suddenly we simply live a life of ease No nostalgie, so fun and free, not bittersweet We poured concrete between the cracks of memory Buried it 'neath the gentle ring of tambourines So fly when the wind is nigh The climates right and we feel so fine Fire, fill the dirigible balloon We're traveling soon Red, blue & yellow Where the highways used to be Red, blue & yellow In the breeze, in the breeze They blow bassoon a drunken sunny afternoon They watch cartoons made by audience and loons They melt harpoons and build a tower to the moon They share their spoons and in the night they proudly croon So fly when the wind is nigh The climates right and we feel so fine Fire, fill the dirigible balloon We're traveling soon Red, blue & yellow Where the highways used to be Red, blue & yellow In the breeze, in the breeze But still the night wind can fall Beware it's cold lonesome call You came to Earth, eschewed your usual wide berth Discovered mirth despite your worries of our worth A pure rebirth: post-economic, non perverse A storied verse to every star system dispersed So fly when the wind is nigh The climates right and we feel so fine Fire, fill the dirigible balloon We're traveling soon Red, blue & yellow Where the highways used to be Red, blue & yellow In the breeze, in the breeze Red, blue & yellow! Where the highways used to be! Red, blue & yellow! In the breeze, in the breeze!

about

Live at Kelly's Olympian, Portland, OR on June 6th, 2022

Hi this is Daisy from daisyleaf! This is a recording of our debut show, which we played back in June. Its rough around the edges but full of energy and love. I put a lot of time and effort into mixing these tracks, not knowing what I was doing at all but determined to make them as repeatably enjoyable as possible while retaining the joy and presence of the room the music was performed in. I used a little bit of movie magic (vocal and keyboard overdubs) to that effect, which I hope purists (weirdos) will excuse.

I wrote these songs from 2020-2022 not thinking I would ever perform them anywhere outside of my friend's living rooms. They're primarily about love: for yourself, for your family, for your friends, for your lovers, for people you wish you could talk again, for trans people, for lesbians, and for hot air balloons blocking traffic on a highway in Albuquerque.

I'd like to thank Bromf for the gorgeous melodic key parts, and the other members of daisyleaf, Maria, Oak, and Eden, for taking a chance on me with this project and giving me the opportunity and the space to express myself with friends... loudly \m/

PS I love you Mike and Ben
